Detective Balogh graduated from E.L. Meyers High School. In 1989, he began his law enforcement career with the Luzerne County Sheriff’s Office. He graduated from the Deputy Sheriff’s Academy in August 1989 at Dickinson School of Law. At the Sheriff’s Office, he implemented a Crime Prevention Unit and the Jr. Deputy Sheriff’s Program under the direction of former Sheriff Carl Zawatski. The Junior Deputy Sheriff’s Program is a prevention program which targets fourth grade students. In May 1991, he graduated from the Pennsylvania Municipal Police Academy at Lackawanna Jr. College. He became involved with law enforcement because he wanted to help the people of the community. He was fortunate enough to fulfill his childhood dream. He graduated from the American Crime Prevention Institute, Louisville, KY. He has been certified as a Basic & Advanced School Resource Officer. For the last eight years, he was the Community Service Officer with the D.A.’s Office. Currently, he is assigned to Computer Crimes/Special Victims Unit. In 18 years of law enforcement, he has attended numerous seminars and has received specialized training in the field of crime prevention, Internet Crime, Computer Crime, Cyber-bullying and internet prevention, school violence, gangs, drug identification, drug and alcohol prevention, and much more. He is the Senior Master Trainer for the “Protecting Kids Online.” He is a member of and affiliated with the PA Crime Prevention Officers Association (PCPOA), County and State Detectives Association of PA, National Association School Resource Officers (NASRO) & PIAA District II Wrestling Officials’ Association. In July 1998, he was awarded the Key to the City of Wilkes-Barre for his Crime Prevention efforts to improve Neighborhood Safety in Rolling Mill Hill, and in October 1999, he was awarded the Governor’s Highway Safety Award for Safety Education. He resides in Mountain Top with his wife Sandra & daughter Lauren.
