Paul Steiner is the Senior Policy Advisor for Crime Prevention at the Bureau of Justice Assistance, U.S. Department of Justice. He is responsible for all policies, programs and grants for crime prevention. He has been with the Department of Justice for over 20 years where he has managed programs in delinquency prevention and juvenile restitution, detention, and corrections. He has had extensive experience in providing technical assistance to States on conditions of confinement, facility planning, deinstitutionalizing status offenders and developing alternatives to the practice of confining juveniles in adult jails. He has also worked in youth services for the States of Virginia and Maryland, and the District of Columbia Department of Corrections, and as a private consultant in juvenile justice. On a volunteer basis, he has served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for the Family Court in Fairfax County, Virginia, a Commissioner on the Montgomery County, Maryland, Commission for Children and Youth, and as a Volunteer in Police Service for the Montgomery County Department of Police.
